Braunvieh Take Top Honors in Carcass Price per Pound
At the 30th Annual Great Western Beef Expo in Sterling Colorado, Braunvieh sired steers didn't win as many honors as in past years, but still showed up well.
Champion in Carcass Price/Lb. went to River Hill Ranch, Platte, South Dakota. These Braunvieh sired steers posted a contest-only price of $US1.0570 per pound. The steers were sired by the Braunvieh bull, Son of Riss.
Two of the eight groups of steers that qualified for the Max Fulscher Carcass Award were Braunvieh sired. The Max Fulscher award is presented to the sire group that receives a USDA quality grade of Prime or Choice, coupled with a USDA Yield Grade of one or two. The award honors the late Max Fulscher, nationally known Hereford breeder and one of the principal founders of the Great Western Beef Expo.
The two Braunvieh sired groups were; River Hills Ranch with a set of Braunvieh sired steers by Son of Riss and Shoffner Ranch, Inc., Vinita, Oklahoma, with a set of Braunvieh sired steers by Prinz Jon.
